Simon Tam is the bass player for, and the founder of, the Asian American dance rock band The Slants. Tam recently visited Covington Middle School to talk with students about how he is using music as a platform to fight against racism and bullying. Students also got a living civics and history lesson as Tam described how the effort to trademark his band’s name ended up in a legal battle that has made it all the way to the United States Supreme Court. Covington is one of six middle schools in Evergreen Public Schools.
