Two other Southwest Region students receive Honorable Mention Awards

May 2, 2016 – OSPI has announced the winners of the 43rd Annual Superintendent’s High School Art Show, who will receive their awards at the ceremony in Olympia on May 20. Jake Thompson, a senior at Union High School in the Evergreen Public Schools district, was awarded the Superintendent’s Award for his photograph, “Interstellar”

The photo is a long exposure of Mount Hood with stars traveling overhead. Thompson says that his goal for the photograph was, “to capture the beauty of nature and the incredible night sky over the mountains.”

Two students from the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, part of Vancouver Public Schools, were awarded Honorable Mentions. Maria Schaljo won for her oil painting, “Submerged” and Natalie Farness for her pen drawing, “The Unsung Hero.”

The ceremony will be held on Friday, May 20 from 1–3 p.m. at the OSPI building in Olympia. To view all of the state winners, click here.
